Description

Ranthambore is a national park located near Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. It used to be a private hunting area of Royals of Jaipur. Now it is a haven for wildlife of many kinds. 

Most people go to Ranthambore to see tigers. There are about 80 tigers in the park. However, the park doesn’t just consist of tigers. It has many other types of wildlife. There is the The National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary Palighat which offers crocodile safaris to tourists. It is located about 45 kilometers away from Ranthambore. If you hire a car, it will take you 1 hour to reach the sanctuary from the park. 

Main attractions

Gharials and crocodiles are the biggest attractions of the sanctuary. There are other aquatic organisms as well. There are many types of turtle and birds. There are also jungle cats, black naped hare, wild boar, marsh crocodiles, porcupines, blue bull, hyenas, jackals and wolves, 

The sanctuary is very popular with birdwatchers because of the different types of birds found here. Some popular birds include Greater Thick Knee, Indian Skimmer and Lapwing. There are more than 316 species of resident and migratory birds in the sanctuary. Other popular birds are Black-bellied Tern, Northern pintail, Red-crested Pochard, Brahminy Shelduck, Common Teal, Sarus Crane and the Common Crane. 

Since the Gharial is endangered, fishing is prohibited at the sanctuary. It affects aquatic organisms and that is why it is banned. It is also a way of conserving the gharials. 

The sanctuary covers almost 400 km of the river Chambal. The sanctuary is in both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The total area of the sanctuary in Rajasthan is 285 square kilometers.

The sanctuary is open from October to March 


 

How to book safari

It is a very easy process. All you need to do is to get in touch with us. There are several booking choices available and you can pick the one which suits you the most. 

Details required for booking safari: 

  1. Name
  2. Gender
  3. Age of the tourists
  4. ID Proof

Safari timings:

10 safaris take place in one day. So you can choose any one timing according to your liking. The first safari is at 8 am and the last one is at 5 pm. 

Rules to be followed during the safari:

There are certain safari rules and they are as follows:

  • Wearing a safety jacket is a must while you are on the safari
  • You cannot go close to the animals
  • You cannot throw garbage into the river as it damages aquatic organisms

  • Motor boats
  • Private air conditioned cars
  • Private open jeeps

Duration of safari:

Each safari is of about one hour

Things which are included:

  • River safari is included
  • Water bottles are given to all tourists
  • Kids below five years of age dont need tickets
  • Hotel Pick ups are included

Things which are not included:

  • Hotel booking
  • Food
  • It is not accessible to wheelchair bound tourists

Things to carry while going on the safari:

Binoculars

Please carry binoculars to get a close look of all the animals, especially birds

Scarf or hat

Wear scarves or hats to protect yourself from the sun. The boats don’t have any shade

Snacks

Please carry snacks as there are no snack shops nearby

Camera

Please carry a camera for taking pictures but remember that there are applicable fees for the same 

Warm clothes

If you decide to visit during winter months, then please carry warm clothes
